Love Local: Katie Dean Jewelry
Good Morning Everyone!
I had to pleasure of meeting Katie Dean at one of our local west elm events a couple months ago. With talking to Katie about her work, with finding out that she was born in Michigan, I knew that I wanted to style her jewelry.
A little more about Katie Dean:
"Born and raised in Michigan, my childhood consisted of lots of arts and crafts, exploring the outdoors, a big loving family and tons of baking — needless to say, my heart still lies in the MidWest. I made the big move to Los Angeles in 2007 to see what the West Coast could offer my young artist self and began working a number of jobs, but none of them were “the one”.
I started to make jewelry and while sporting it when I was out and about, people began stopping me, asking where I had gotten the pieces from. Soon enough, I was selling pieces directly off my body. I rarely could keep & wear a piece for a week before someone purchased it from me. It was at that point, I realized I was happiest making jewelry and people were loving it!
Like a fairy tale (…with lots of hard work), it all fell into place. I took the plunge, quit my jobs and went full force into Katie Dean Jewelry. The company started in 2012 and I’m proud to say, it was the right choice. Nothing makes me happier than making gorgeous, flirty jewels for you to shamelessly take a #selfie in."
When picking a ring, I wanted something extremely different. With loving birds and aviation, The Athena ring was perfect. It instantly reminded me of a ring that Grandma Boyd had when I was little. It was a simple silver band with small rivets in it. It also took me back to the days where my grandparents and I would bird watch on our porch during the summer months.
