Print Is Not Dead: Mr. Porter Post #1

Good Morning Everyone!

Today I want to launch a new topic here on Wendling & Boyd. With being an avid lover of print and publication design. My design career started with finding The Kinfolk Table at my local Barnes and Noble in Flint (shocking I know). As the world evolves into a digital realm, print is not dead. People may say it is, but with working in the design field and still as a student, my faculty even say that it may be on the decline but it's still going to be there. Even meeting Rodrigo Corral, who is the designer who designed the book cover of Fault In Our Stars, his first words were, " Print is Not Dead". So this is my testament to keeping print alive. Last week, my mother visited me in Grand Rapids, and she handed me a newspaper. I looked at and I completely forgot ordering the "Mr. Porter Post".

"MR PORTER is the award-winning global retail destination for men's style, combining the best international menswear with editorial content. The site sells over 300 leading international brands, with content and new products added weekly. MR PORTER offers express worldwide shipping to 170 countries (with same day service in London and New York) and a free collection service for returns and exchanges. Designers available include Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Raf Simons, Lanvin, Loro Piana, Maison Kitsune, Boglioli, A.P.C, Beams Plus, J.Crew, Church's and Common Projects."

The post is printed on newsprint (which is amazing because it's a correlation to the word post), and let's just say the newspaper is oversized (as you could tell it's bigger than my head). The design and grind are simple yet complex. The fact that there's large sized images made my jaw drop. It's always interesting to see what's happening in the fashion world. I feel like I'm relative fashionable but I've never thought that I'd be interested in the high fashion side of the world. I was raised on clothes from bigger brands that were extremely cheap and the quality wasn't the best. Now, I'm starting to clear out the old wardrobe and am filling it with quality pieces.
