Drinks at Gray Skies Distillery
With loving the entirety of craft, I've always been a fan of grabbing a drink with a few friends. Last Saturday when the weather was warm, Kristin Jones, her husband Matt, and a new friend Joanna all met at Gray Skies. Gray Skies is a distillery in downtown Grand Rapids and it brings this Scandinavian aesthetic to the city. Along with Sovengard, there isn't much of a Scandinavian styled facility around. Thanks to my boss at work, I wouldn't have known about this quaint distillery. Their coffee liquor is to die for and their barrel aged hopped gin is the most intense thing I've ever tasted in my life. There's a correlation with the dinner table and getting together that does involve indulging in a delicious cocktail/wine/beer. Whenever we would get together as a family, there was always a bottle of wine or beer. There wasn't really any cocktails until my brother and I turned 21 and we had our annual Christmas cocktail every Christmas Eve. I think it's something that I picked up when moving to the city. I love grabbing a drink with a few of friends. It's all a sense of getting together around friends and family.
Here's some information on Gray Skies :
Gray Skies was founded by two friends trying to build a business they love and create spirits they are proud of. Steve Vander Pol and Brandon Voorhees have known each other since grade school and after decades of friendship they purchased a dilapidated building in 2014 which eventually became Gray Skies Distillery.
We feel great spirits are a reflection of where they are made. The same Great Lake responsible our namesake wintry gray skies provides the water we use to craft our spirits. An image of Lake Michigan is printed on every bottle we manufacture.
Gray Skies spirits are a distillation of the Midwest, Michigan, Grand Rapids and our neighborhood. We are a small batch distillery sitting in Grand Rapids North Monroe industrial district, a place with a long tradition of making things. We chose this area to continue this tradition. We make spirits simply because we love doing it and we hand bottle everything we make in Grand Rapids because we love being here. Our grains and malt come from Michigan farmers.
There is a motto at Gray Skies: good hooch made local. Our only goal is if you try one of our spirits you agree this motto fits.
